A delicious pair...
Tonight, due to a miscommunication, both Wes and I stopped at Albertson’s to get meat to cook for dinner, and as great minds often do, we both thought to pick up a king cake (Albertson’s does a great job). Anyway, when we got home, Vera saw them on the table and said, “Look, it’s two king cakes! That’s a pair!”
Wes and I congratulated ourselves on her large...
Vera has been working on her trike skills for a while, and she finally got it yesterday at Hudson’s birthday party!
Children are magical...
I’ve told Wes for years that I want to bring him to NYC and see Wicked (because I’ve seen it 3 times and love it), and he has strongly resisted. Anyway, Vera heard Defying Gravity the other day for the first time, and had wanted to listen to nothing else. We must have listened at least 30 times since Thursday. Wes asked me if I thought it was too adult to take her to see it! The things...
TMI
Vera finally pooped in the potty at school!!! Lollipops for everyone!
Don't Carpe Diem →
I love this.
Pillow Talk
Vera: Mom, I want you to get in my bed with me.
Me: Mama can't get in there baby, I'm too big.
Vera: But I really want you to. Can you grow down?
Yesterday morning, as I was rushing to and through the grocery store because I’d forgotten to get fruit for a science experiment over the weekend, Vera helped me stop to smell the roses. She gets so excited every time we leave a store, because she likes to hold the receipt and feel/watch it blow in the wind. I love that about her.
Shake Shake Shake Mrs. Donora...
We have an elderly neighbor named Donora, whom Vera likes. Tonight, while I was doing my new Just Dance workout regimen (so awesome), with Vera assisting, she requested that we do “Shake Mrs. Donora,” (Jump in the Line by Harry Belafonte) because she enjoys that song and dance (especially the shimmying). I’m still laughing about it.

Can you walk Mrs. Potato Head? Be careful, or you’re gonna fall like humpty...
– Vera, while playing with the Mrs. Potato Head she got from daycare Santa.
Our daughter is eating frozen raw onions and bell pepper like candy.
– Text from Wes just now.

Cool story, jeopardy teen!
I know it seems ridiculous to post a quick anecdote here after months of not posting, being late with the 2-year-old post, no Halloween pics, no pumpkin patch pics, etc, but this story was too cute:
Tonight, I was giving Vera the weekend preview, and I mentioned that we had her Aunt Katie’s baby shower on Sunday, and that it was a party. She started asking if Wes and Uncle Alex were going...

Vera loves to sing in the car. “Uptown Girl” is one of her funniest performances, but I’m never able to capture it because I’m driving. My mom was with us yesterday, and she captured this, which is slightly silly (she knew she was being filmed), but still funny.
It was chilly at the beach this morning, so we brought the kids to Adventure Island for some expensive fun. Thanks to Uncle Butchie, they all got to stand in the hurricane machine.

Potty Training Chat...
(Vera successfully tee teed and poo pood on the potty all by herself this morning. She wanted to walk around naked, so I let her. Anyway, she walked right to the potty and sat down and went! This conversation happened a few reward M&Ms later)
Mama: ok, do you want to put a pull-up on?
Vera: no, I’m still walking in my booty.
Last night, V woke up at 2:30 crying. When I went in there, she held up had hand and said, “This Mama. This!” I couldn’t see, so I grabbed it. Come to find out it was vomit. It’s really hard for me to miss school on such short notice, so Wes stayed home with her. Anyway, she seemed ok, but them got 101.3 fever tonight. We took her to urgent care and she tested positive for...

OMG. Vera just told me she had something “in [her] left hand.” I asked her which one was her left. She showed me, and then told me the other one was the right hand. I guess I am getting my money’s worth from her daycare!
Vera insisted in putting her PJs on all by herself tonight, and she did it right!! I’m so proud!!!!
She gets it from her Mama...
Vera has been having nightmares and waking up almost every night. Any suggestions, parents?
Mini beach trip with the Fitchs!
We took a quick weekend trip to Gulfport, MS with Lis, Scott, and the kids. We wanted to go to the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, which is an excellent Children’s Museum, and the beach was an added bonus. I was skeptical, because I am kind of a snob for Destin-area sands and water, but I was pleasantly surprised by the fun shallow water and sandbars can bring (even if the water is brown)....

Vera's Second Trip to Austin
Vera and I had a wonderful trip to Austin to visit Aunt Courtney, Uncle Ben, and McCullough. Here are some fun pics!
Vera’s first trip to Costco. Haha.
Here are the girls playing in the backyard the afternoon we got there.
Court and Ben belong to a great club with an AMAZING baby pool. Here’s the view from the deck!
It even had a little splash pad.

4th of July Weekend
As usual I am WAY late on this (and as usual, I am starting out a post with an apology), but here are some highlights from our annual family 4th of July party.
I repeated the balloon garland that we did for Vera’s birthday party last year. I think it adds a fun sense of occasion!
To encourage participation in games, Nicki, Mike, and Jason thought up and created this MVP belt, to be...
A little taste of our Austin trip: here’s Vera, delighted by the unexpected sprinkler appearance on the walk to the guest room at Aunt Court’s house.

Vera does hilariously cute stuff all the time, but I’m rarely able to capture it on video. This morning, while I was getting dressed, I turned around and grabbed my phone to catch this gem. Enjoy.
Excuse the messy room.
Conversations with kids
Trey: But I want an Icee AND a cookie.
Me: Well, I want good looks and money, but I only got one of them.
Caroline: Um...you must have...money.
Me: Do you want to change your diaper?
Vera: I feel good.
Pa - Pa - Pa - Pa- Pa- Parrain
Tonight during dinner, I broke into “Barbara Ann” by the Beach Boys (which, up until today, I thought was called Bopperann). Anyway, after I finished the chorus, Vera said “Parrain” (which is what she calls Glenn, her godfather). So I sang the Parrain version, and she kept asking me to repeat it. Finally I just downloaded it. Anyway, Wes was thrilled. ;)
P.S. I love the...
I think Vera had her first nightmare:
Vera: (crying in her bed this morning)
Me: what's wrong baby?
Vera: Bug? Eat you? (more crying)
Me: Oh, Bugs don't eat people. I think you had a bad dream!
Vera: Bug? Eat you? Eat you fingers?
* Obviously that went on for a little while. She doesn't use the word "me" yet, so in the dream, I think the bug was eating her. I hope she doesn't have nightmares like I did as a kid. Poor baby.
